Wikileaks documents fragility

Programme guests: Abdul Haleem Al Ruhaimi, Writer and Analyst
Dr. Hameed Fadhil, Writer and Analyst
Mohammed Kadum, programme producer and host
Why would publishing pictures of terrorists a reason for human rights violation allegations by some parties, in other words, why have the pictures of terrorists created a media fanfare , was the first topic touched upon in this programme.
Abdul Haleem Al Ruhaimi, Iraqi writer and Analyst said he followed up the issue of publishing classified documents through the media and reached a conclusion that that the Wikileaks were politicized and aimed against Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki and the Iraqi political process as a whole.
Al Al Ruhaimi addedthat the classified document that were also leaked in connection with the war in Afghanistan were 70,000 classified documents only, in a land where the war has been going on from November 2001, whereas the 7 years of US existence in Iraq has produced 5 times the amount of documents. In his view, the whole procedure is politicized and intentional. He also wondered why the leaked reports did not include the countries that back terrorism and recruitments them to kill Iraqis in the name of the resistance.

The programme’s host also asked Dr. Hamid Fadil about the leaked classified documents and his take regarding the issue.

Fadil made it clear that publishing the classified documents at this time has not come as an accident, adding that there are those who oppose Al Maliki’s formation of the upcoming Iraqi government, and his new alliance with the Sadrist movement.
He added that the reports focused on two issues: the first rests on accusing Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki of conducting detaining and pressurizing people, and the other claims the existence of militias that carry out the alleged operations with Iran’s backing. The target is clear he added, and it lies in connecting Al Maliki with Iran and thus binding the two together. He added that it was clear that all these issues have been set to effect the political process in Iraq and shed negative shadows on Al Maliki’s possible second term.
Fadil clarified that the information revealed in the classified documents is not new, and the accusations about human rights abuses have popped up in western media outlets. The fabricated news about assassinations in Iraq linked with Iran were also reported in the western media. He pointed out that to be able to prove these allegations new information back up has to be present.
Mohammed Kadum asked Al Ruhaimi about the reason for publishing doubtful pictures of terrorists or terrorist’s victims and alleging that the government and security forces are responsible for them?
Al Ruhaimi said that there is a fierce campaign backed by neighboring countries that appose Al Maliki , the Iraqi government and the whole political process in the country in general.
Some forces have also announced openly that they will spend millions to jeopardize the democratic process in the country.
Al Ruhaimi went a step further by saying that the alleged photos of dead bodies published on Wikileaks is another proof of the renewed lies as anyone can easily take pictures of terrorist victims and attribute that to any group or incident.
Other pictures or footage may well show terrorists in live confrontation with security forces, which are doing their job to rid Iraq of terrorists. How can these pictures be a proof of human rights violations, while in reality the terrorists are the ones that are fighting and killing Iraqi civilians.
Al Ruhaimi also pointed out the fact that some media outlets played a dirty role during the confrontation with terrorists in Ramadi and Faluja. They issued images of dead terrorists, and backed them in their call for establishing a terrorist state in Iraq, which resembles the Talaban state in Afghanistan. Most of the pictures publicized by Wikileaks come from that time, and their goal is to destroy the political process in Iraq.
Kadum also asked al Ruhaimi: In whose interest is the publication of these classified documents if the US is also very upset about seeing them out in the open?
Al Ruhaimi made it clear that the politicization process comes from regional countries that pay millions of dollars to media outlets to target the Iraqi political process, he also clarified that there are a number of writers that are paid to attack Iraq. He also wondered why the classified documents were published at this very time.
Kadum also pointed out a very important point in this respect. He asked Dr. Fadhil about the allegations made about human rights abuses in prisons, forgetting the nature of the crime committed by the detained criminals against Iraqi civilians.
Fadhil also said that when we talk about human rights in Iraq, we have to realize that it is unreasonable that any misconduct on the part of the ministry of defense or interior personnel will be the responsibility of the ministers. He added that no doubt there are still those who are living in the same mental structure of the pre-2003 days under the Baathist regime.
Dr. Fadhil also pointed out that there are still politicians that trade with Iraqi blood to maintain and gain votes. They go to Iraqi prisons, and offer their sympathies to terrorists who landed in prison because of crimes committed against Iraqi civilians. Fadhil expressed his sorrow that there are still those that call terrorist acts “resistance”!!!
On his part Al Ruhaimi wondered why detention and arrest measures are considered against human rights if a small little breach takes place during the arrest against terrorists who have killed scores of civilians with cold blood.
He explained that there are agendas and Iraqi political groups that take advantage of any issue to jeopardize the government’s role in fighting terrorism, and talks about the government and security force’s performance shortcomings.
Al Ruhaimi made it very clear that all the arrests executed and carried out by security forces against terrorists are legal to protect the country against terrorism. He added that countries that are concerned for their people’s security and their country’s stability tread the same road.
He asked that human rights organizations –which he called liars and motivated by others - must be questioned by international organizations to reveal the truth of the matter and he called upon all international bodies to stand against those who are twisting the truth to misguide the Iraqi and public opinion.
