The Prime Minister reiterates during his receiving Anbar sheikhs and notables the necessity of maintaining national unity and expanding the governorate’s authorities

Prime minister Nouri Al Maliki has stressed the importance of maintaining national unity between all Iraqis and expanding the governorate’s authorities in a way which enables it to offer services and hasten the re-building process.

During al Maliki’s meeting with a number of Sheikhs and notables from Anbar, he pointed out to the legality of their demands, stressing his willingness to comply with all their requirements that do not contradict with his Constitutional authorities.

 Al Maliki also revealed that there is a plan to channel all the authorities of the central government to the local governments except for those related to sovereignty, security, foreign policy and the distribution of the country’s wealth which have to remain as a part of the central government’s responsibility.

On their part, the Anbar Shiekhs and notables stressed their backing of the government and especially the efforts made to maintain the unity, sovereignty and stability of the country.

They also stressed the deep fraternal links between all Iraqis and the fact that these links are stronger that the challenges faced today.
